Trust, Timing and Shared Values: How Two Opendoorz Members Came Together on a Defining Project

One of the things we value most at Opendoorz is seeing long-standing relationships evolve into meaningful collaborations.

Not because someone needs a supplier.

Not because an opportunity is forced.

But because trust has already been built.

The collaboration between Sam Farmer of Nightingales and Charlie Landells of Hook is a great example of what can happen when business owners invest in relationships first.

Different Membership Journeys, Shared Principles

Sam has been part of Opendoorz for more than 13 years. During that time, he has grown and developed Nightingales significantly, building strong relationships across the network and becoming a familiar and respected presence within the community.

Charlie joined Opendoorz in January 2025 and quickly embraced the culture of relationship-building that sits at the heart of the organisation. Within his first month, Charlie and Sam had already arranged an Insight meeting. “Sam was a great personal supporter of my membership from day one,” recalls Charlie.

Rather than focusing on immediate opportunities, their conversations centred on understanding one another as people, business owners and professionals.

The Right Time for a New Chapter

As Nightingales entered its next phase of growth during 2026, Sam began considering how the business should present itself for the future.

Having watched Charlie’s showcase and gained a deeper understanding of Hook’s approach, he felt the timing was right to explore whether they could work together.

A conversation followed. “It became obvious very quickly that we were aligned,” says Charlie. “Not just on the services required, but on the creative direction, business philosophy and what the final outcome should feel like.”

What followed was a significant project to redefine Nightingales’ visual identity and support the next chapter of its growth.

Built on Trust, Not Transactions

For both businesses, the project represented far more than a supplier-client relationship. The foundations had already been established through conversations, support and a genuine interest in each other’s success. The collaboration has delivered work that sits proudly within Hook’s portfolio, while helping Nightingales position itself for the future with a refreshed identity aligned to its ambitions.

Perhaps most remarkable is that it all stemmed from a relationship that started with a simple Insight meeting.

A Reflection of the Opendoorz Culture

When reflecting on the experience, Charlie is clear about what made the collaboration possible. “Don’t assume the room will immediately buy what you’re selling. It’s key to build a personal relationship first to see how you might work together. Sam’s support of myself as an individual came first.”

For Sam, the project is another example of something he has experienced throughout his membership journey: when you consistently invest in people, opportunities often emerge naturally.

More Than Networking

At its heart, this story isn’t about branding, design or even business growth.

It’s about what happens when people take the time to build genuine relationships.

Opendoorz creates the environment for those relationships to develop. The members create the trust. The opportunities are simply a by-product.

As Charlie puts it, Opendoorz provides “a platform and encouraging atmosphere for business owners to talk first and foremost, and for it not to feel transactional.”

And sometimes, those conversations lead to something extraordinary.
