Dedicated family man with 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren believe good personal relationships are the cornerstone of family and business life. After being made redundant as group MD for a multimillion £ group financial services seemed the natural choice – after 30 years still believe that was a good move
I was the group MD for a multi million £ car franchise so I thought starting an independent financial planning business with 2 friends would be a doddle – how wrong I was!
After working as tied consultants for some leading life companies John Davison, Paul Myers and myself started MDG in 1995 as a partnership – and like many partnerships we fell out after a couple of years and the business was restructured as barrister in chambers are where we share running costs but operate different style of business.
Nearly 30 years on we now have 7 consulting advisers with 0.75 billion under our advice working closely with selected discretionary fund managers. Like most modern IFA practices, we run our own in-house mortgage and protection desk allowing the consultants time for genuine financial planning.
My specialism is working in collaboration with associated professional advisers such as private client lawyers, divorce barristers, accountants and tax planners. To do this I am a chartered fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (FCSI), a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FPFS), a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEP) and an early member of the Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA). So what I can hear you say! Holding and maintaining these qualifications allows me to look beyond the financial planning aspect to expose the wider situations of clients and their businesses to involve these professional associates.
I now play a less active role in the day-to-day running of the business which allows me to concentrate on building long-term, sustainable relationships with selected professional associates based on reciprocity and using my qualifications. I strongly believe that clients benefit from the synergy of tax planners, legal advisers and financial planning working in close collaboration within a circle of trust.
I like to think that I am an innovative and a creative marketeer and look forward to joining Opendoorz working with like-minded fellow professionals creating new associations and mutual opportunities.
